The Cajun Serama Council, Inc. is committed to preserving and promoting the full diversity of the Serama breed — including major types such as the American, Traditional, Ayam (Malaysian), Modern and Extreme Malaysian, as well as novelty varieties like Frizzled, Silkied, and Booted. CSC showcases the Serama in all its natural beauty through hands-on learning, digital outreach, and published resources. We support responsible breeders and exhibitors, encourage ethical breeding and exhibition practices, and sponsor shows at the local, state, regional, and national levels. Our mission is to unite and educate enthusiasts while honoring the cultural heritage and unique expression of every Serama type.

The Cajun Serama Council (CSC) traces its roots to 2001, when Louisiana breeder Jerry Schexnayder hand-selected 135 Seramas from Malaysia, making him the original importer of the Serama breed to the United States. This historic import laid the genetic foundation for the Serama in North America, and Jerry’s flock remains the largest known collection of pure-blood Seramas in the country.
In 2005, inspired by his growing flock and a desire to bring breeders together, Jerry organized the first Cajun Classic, the earliest Serama exhibition in the U.S. That same year, he founded the Cajun Serama Council in Louisiana alongside other passionate breeders. The CSC was created to support and preserve all types of Seramas—not just those recognized by major poultry organizations, but also novelty varieties often overlooked elsewhere.
Although the council operated informally for many years, the Cajun Serama Council was officially incorporated as a nonprofit in Louisiana more recently. Its incorporation marked a renewed commitment to education, breed diversity, and ethical exhibition.
Throughout its history, CSC has stood apart for its inclusive philosophy, embracing all recognized conformation styles—American, Traditional, Ayam (Malaysian), Modern Malaysian, and Extreme Malaysian—as well as novelty traits like Frizzled, Silkied, and Booted. The club has grown into a vibrant community that promotes mentorship, fair competition, hands-on learning, and the cultural heritage of the Serama.
Guided by Jerry’s motto, “Your bird. Your time. Your dime,” the Cajun Serama Council remains rooted in authenticity and continues to unite and inspire poultry keepers across the country.
The Cajun Serama Council exists today because of the vision, dedication, and lifelong commitment of Jerry Schexnayder. More than a founder, Jerry is a mentor, advocate, and respected leader whose influence has shaped the Serama community both in Louisiana and across the country.

The Cajun Serama Council exists today because of the vision, dedication, and lifelong commitment of Jerry Schexnayder. More than a founder, Jerry is a mentor, advocate, and respected leader whose influence has shaped the Serama community both in Louisiana and across the country.
Jerry’s passion for the breed goes beyond breeding and showing. He has spent decades educating newcomers, supporting fellow breeders, and defending the importance of diversity within the Serama world. Whether mentoring behind the scenes or helping others navigate the complexities of conformation and care, Jerry’s presence continues to guide the heart of the CSC.
His straightforward motto—“Your bird. Your time. Your dime.”—captures the independence and self-expression at the core of the Serama experience. It reminds breeders that every bird has value, and every keeper has a voice.
We honor Jerry not only for what he has built, but for how he continues to serve: with humility, generosity, and a deep love for the breed and the people who keep it. His legacy is not just in the birds—it’s in the community, the conversations, and the countless lives he’s influenced along the way.
